House that has prison with nine cells next to kitchen goes on sale (Photos)

The building looks beautiful from the outside but the inside habours one of the most unbelievable additions to a family house – a self-contained jail with nine cells.

The internet is buzzing over this story. What looked like an ordinary-looking home hiding its own prison within has gone on the market – and people are understandably finding the whole thing “extremely alarming”.

According to Mirror, the property in Missouri, US, was originally built in 1875 with two bedrooms and a stunning interior with wooden floors and marble finishes.

It’s on sale with an asking price of about £265,000 – but it’s a door leading off from the kitchen that has seen the bizarre listing go viral.

Next to the white cabinets and stone worktops is a heavy metal, grey door that looks very out of place with the rest of the home, leading to a series of prison cells with the capacity to hold nine people.

One cell contains two metal bunk beds, a basic toilet and what appears to be a holding area behind metal bars and a cell door, with other cells designed for single occupancy.

Photos from the outside of the home show metal bars covering many of the windows and doors, acting as the only hint of what is concealed inside the otherwise unassuming property.

A listing on House of Brokers rightly highlights the sale as an ‘extremely unique opportunity’, with the description reading: “Extensive renovation in 2005, captures modern high end finishes with traditional architecture and character.

“AND THE BEST PART – connected to the home is a 2500 sqft legitimate jail with 9 cells, booking room and 1/2 bath. The cell door lock throws appear to be operational. Full basement under the home with lighting throughout. Possibilities are amazing with this property.”

But it’s the ‘possibilities’ of the home that is worrying people on social media, with some suggesting it should simply state that only psychopaths need apply.

The listing does seem to offer a slightly more reassuring explanation as to why the cells are there, stating that the building was previously used as the Howard County Sheriff’s House and Jail.

It was shared on Twitter by @SairaKH with the captions: “This gorgeous house with AN ENTIRE PRISON in it can be yours for only $350,000.

“Have a peaceful thanksgiving upstairs knowing that your prisoners are safely and quietly confined downstairs.”

A single cell was described as “a special room for misbehaving children”, while adding: “Hate your daughter’s boyfriend? Disappear him in your basement while she sleeps in this gorgeous sunlit room.

“Why go through a messy and expensive divorce when your house is equipped with one of these babies?”

It racked up more than 13,000 likes, with one writing: “You can just sell your trafficking dungeon house on the open market now, cool cool cool.”

A second replied: “Whoever buys this house should absolutely be monitored by the authorities.”
