Indian Woman Arrested For Always Posing As Man To Marry Women, Harass Them For Dowry

It was end of the road for a woman in India who was in the habit of posing as a man to marry women for the primary purpose of requesting dowry from them, even when this was against Indian law. It is actually a man that should pay dowry to a woman but Krishna Sen, has successfully married two women on separate occasions and harassed them for dowry which they refused to pay and informed the police, leading to her arrest.

Krishna Sen

You might wonder how she managed to deceive a second woman after divorcing the first lady she married in 2014. Well, Sen does not undress in front of her ‘wives’. She walks like a man, speaks in a man’s voice, drives a bike, uses men’s toilet and does not have sexual relationship with them.

She was arrested for posing as a man in order to marry two women and demand dowries from their families.

Sen was apprehended for demanding dowry — which is illegal in India. Her gender was revealed during an interrogation, BBC reports.

Sen, 26, is believed to have impersonated a man since 2014, when she entered into her first marriage.

“At first we failed to understand what Krishna was saying,” senior police officer Janamejay Khanduri told the BBC.

“We conducted a medical examination and found that Krishna is female,” he said.

Sen during one of ‘his’ weddings

Sen and her first wife reportedly separated shortly after they were married.

Sen married another woman in April 2017, according to the BBC.

Her former in-laws filed a police complaint alleging that Sen harassed their daughter for a dowry.

They also accused Sen of borrowing the equivalent of $1,3297 purportedly to start a business, which was never repaid.

Paying or accepting a dowry — a gift of cash, clothes or jewelry brought by a bride to her husband on their wedding day — has been illegal in India since 1961.

But the practice still thrives there today.

Sen reportedly told police she aspired to live a “man’s live.”

Neither of her wives appeared to have suspected her of attempting to swap genders. She never disrobed in front of them and was never sexually intimate with them, according to police.

Sen had male friends, used men’s toilets, and spoke in a male tone of voice, according to police.

She also adopted male habits and even walked like a “confident man” according to police. She reportedly smoked, drank alcohol and drove a motorcycle.

“With male hairstyle, dress and behavior, Krishna used to live a male life. Nobody ever doubted Krishna,” a police officer said.

Though Sen was arrested in 2018, the incident is still baffling many observers and social media users.
