Christmas songs are meant to lighten up people’s souls in readiness for the yuletide celebrations. 1. “Dominick the Donkey” by Lou Monte
In this song, Italian-American songster Lou Monte says “when Santa visits his paisans,” he takes his donkey Dominick along “because the Reindeer cannot climb the hills of Italy.” This song was considered a novelty when it was released in 1960 and the Italian Communities in New Jersey where Monte grew up loved listening to it, report’s msn. Today, it is considered hilarious by children probably because of the changing times. But if it were to be a classic changing times won’t affect. It now sounds a bit wacky when you listen to is.
2. “The Christmas Shoes” (New Song)
Here’s a song seen as not just annoying buy depressing for a Christmas season when you’re supposed to be in a joyful mood. Christmas songs introduce your mood in to the cheer associated with joyfulness of the season. But this is a sickening song about a poor boy who wants to buy a pair of shoes for his sick mother so “she’ll look beautiful (if) she meets Jesus tonight”. Such a sad story is sending as obnoxious for the Christmas season. I bet you would rather close your ears than listen to this song during the Christmas season.
3. “All I Want For Christmas (Is My Two Front Teeth)” by Spike Jones & his City Slickers
This 1940s song is unbelievably wacky. Asking Santa for baby teeth instead of PlayStation or SUV to cruise around is just strange. Just listen to the lyrics of this song and weep for Santa. He must be shocked too.

You won’t that this song which was written by Ross Bagdasarian Sr. and released in 1958 was enormously successful. 5. “Wiggly Wiggly Christmas” by The Wiggles
You might say it is strange to add the wiggles, a popular Aussie Children’s Group, to this list. After all, they’re kids you might say and their songs could sound wacky with high-energy expressions. But the way they repeated “wiggly wiggly Christmas” in that song somehow paddled them into this list. While listening to the song you might be wondering whether you should just find a reason to cancel the Christmas holidays or call the season another name in order to celebrate it.
6. “Do They Know It’s Christmas” by Band Aid
The song was written and released as a response to the Ethiopian famine of the mid 1980s. The group, Band Aid, was organized by singer Bob Geldof who was determined to channel money to a higher cause by way of charity song. He enlisted Bono, Boy George, Phil Collins, Sting, and many other high-profile artists to form the superband called Band Aid. The group recorded the vocal track for the song “Do They Know It’s Christmas” in one marathon 24-hour session. Though the track which was well publicized, raised tens of millions of dollars for the Ethiopian relief, the song itself was considered as condescending, patronizing and imperialistic, including being awful. Even Gedolf himself admitted this when he said he was “responsible for two of the worst songs in history. One is “Do They Know It’s Christmas” and the second one is “We Are The World”. You might be shocked to see “We are the world” mentioned as one of the worst songs in history even by the coordinator of the group that sang that song, a song regarded as a classic by many; and to even imagine that such a group would sing a Christmas song that makes the list of top 10 worst Christmas songs is also strange. But listen to the lyrics and reason with those who think the song belongs in this list.
7. “Gott nytt jul” by Sean Banan
This song is described as having the fart sound effect. Does this mean you’re made to cover your nose while listening to a Christmas song? Though it was released in Swedish by 2013 Eurovision contestant, Sean Banan, you can’t miss the awfulness of the song in the sound. If you speak Swedish or you have a translator, you would hear Sean telling Santa to “come and bring your ho ho hoes”. In the music video you will see a man in fat Santa suit twerking to the song, and then decide whether that makes it better for you or more annoying.
8. “Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer” by William Hung
This song was released by failed American Idol wannabe William Hung in 2004. This guy became popular after his tone-deaf rendition of Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs”, after which he put together a holiday album called Hung for the holiday. That album had this song that is featuring in the top ten most annoying Christmas songs.
9. “I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas” by Gayla Peevey
Now this title sounds wacky for a Christmas song. Once you see it yourself get curious to listen to the song. Just checkout a bit if history behind the song.
Long before the Cincinnati Xoo’s Fiona the Hippo became an internet celebrity, Gayla Peevey, a 10-year-old girl, sang a novelty song in 1953 about wanting a hippopotamus for Christmas. This song became an instant hit and Peevey even performed it on a popular programme at that time, the Ed Sullivan Show. A promoter organized a fundraiser to buy Peevey a hippopotamus which was donated to her hometown’s Oklahoma City Zoo. The hippo named Matilda, became a popular city resident until she died in 1998. The story is cute but let’s not forget that the song is what is being assessed here. The song has inaccurate, wacky content. In the song, Peevey sings that he mother sees her as delusional for requesting a hippo for Christmas and wanted to dissuade her by telling her the hippo would eat her up. But then “teacher says the hippo is a vegetarian.” Hippos are generally omnivorous animals, though with carnivorous tendencies. So this is disinformation.
10. “Shake Up Christmas” by Train.
The lyrics of this song sound a bit weird. The song was released in 2010 when the “Drops of Jupiter” rockers tried to get into the holiday spirit. But with weird lines such as “Before I get too old and don’t remember it, s let’s December it and resemble it,” you wouldn’t doubt why this song is on this list.
