Major Cannabis Farm Discovered In Police Station

Police in Oldham’s Neighbourhood, Greater Manchester, England, were shocked to discover a major cannabis farm in a police station.

Failsworth Police Station was the base for Oldham’s Neighbourhood Policing Team until it was closed six years ago due to government cuts.
On Thursday, July 4, passing officers noticed that the building had been left insecure and stepped inside to investigate.
Inside they discovered the remnants of “huge cannabis production” operation.
They said that the entire first floor and loft space of the disused cop shop had been given over to the cultivation of more than 1,000 plants.

When the officers searched the premises, though, only root balls, soil and empty pots remained.
A post on GMP Failsworth and Hollinwood’s Facebook page said: “It is believed the grow was ‘taxed’ in the early hours of this morning where all the cannabis plants had been removed.
“The electricity meter had also been bypassed.
“From items left at the scene it appears the “gardeners” had been living/sleeping at the location.”

They explained the building was vacated by police six years ago as part of the cuts to their budget and not used by us since.
“It was sold at auction a short time later. The building has been privately owned ever since,” they added.
“It was a bit surreal though seeing the old Inspector’s office full of root balls and empty pots.”

Facebook users were quick to see the funny side.

Debbie Kendrick Lyons said: “I know I shouldn’t but I’ve found this quite comical… This would have been a good story for and old black and white Ealing Studio comedy film!”

And Ian Struthers added: “You couldn’t make it up….. That’s taking the ####!”

Meanwhile on a more serious note Laura Glennie observed: “Well if there was ever a more fitting incident to sum up crime moving into the spaces left by police cuts. Shame on the government.”
The cannabis crop was long gone, but the remaining gardening equipment was donated to a local growing hub at Earls Lodge.
