Wedding guests go hungry after bride spent entire £4k catering budget on Mickey Mouse appearance and hosted wedding with no food

The wedding guests may have been stunned by the ‘no-food’ treatment they got at the wedding, especially when they got to know what happened to the catering budget.

A bride who left her wedding guests hungry after she had her “dream” Disney wedding earlier this year has admitted that she used the £4,000 that was set aside for catering to fund a surprise appearance from Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

The woman, 28, said on Reddit that she thought her wedding was “perfect”, but she began to suspect her guests didn’t feel the same way when her aunt posted on Facebook about how “disappointed” she was with the event.

According to Mirror, the woman said that some people were not happy with the fact that there was no catering available at the wedding – and confessed that instead of paying for food for her guests, she had booked impersonators of the two classic Disney characters.

She did not specifically state that she tied the knot at a Disney resort, but she did insist the characters were the “Disney official wedding Minnie and Mickey”, which cost her an eyewatering $5,500 (£4,400) for two 30-minute sessions.

In her post, she wrote: “My fiancé and I just got married two months ago and we had our dream wedding. Everything was perfect, and I mean everything. My parents and his parents helped us pay for a great chunk of the wedding so we would be debt-free and we are so eternally grateful for that.

“However, about a month and a half ago my aunt started posting on Facebook about how disappointed she was with the whole ordeal, and a few guests sided with her.

“For context, my fiancé and I are huge Disney fans, and we travel to Disney World as much as we can throughout the year. Disney is such an important part not only of us but also of our marriage.

“The issue [my aunt had] was with our decision to not offer catering services or bar services at our wedding due to routing the money towards having Minnie and Mickey make appearances on our special day.

“The cost to have both Minnie and Mickey for a good chunk of time (30 minutes) was almost exactly what our parents allotted for our catering budget, so we scheduled an appearance during our first dance and our wedding photos, forgoing served food.

“My parents were still very supportive of us, but everyone else is being passive aggressive about it on Facebook.”

In later comments, the bride noted that she booked the characters for two sessions on two separate days, with each 30-minute appearance costing $2,750 (£2,200).

She also claimed that there were “plenty of facilities at the venue where people could eat”, but they would have needed to foot the bill for the food themselves, as it was external to the couple’s wedding.

Commenters on the Reddit post were split on the issue, as while many said that part of hosting a wedding should be providing refreshments for guests, it was also noted that the bride was well within her rights to want to throw the wedding of her dreams.

One person said: “I get wanting to throw the wedding of your dreams. But by throwing a wedding and then inviting guests, you are a host. It’s very poor hosting to not provide your guests food and drinks and expect your guests to pay to feed themselves.

“And doing it so you could have people in costumes pose with you is so tacky. If you couldn’t afford the wedding you wanted, which should have included feeding your guests, you should have either downsized or cut expenses somewhere else.”
